We strongly recommend travelling to New Zealand with Travel Insurance. We have negotiated a very special rate for the Nover Star Partner group at a rate of NZD$54.00 per person which covers your from Saturday 21 August - Wednesday 25 August 2010 (children included with delegate). If you choose to extend, the extra day rate is NZD$9 per day, per person which also covers children included with delegate.

Luggage Allowance

Your luggage allowance differs by carrier. Generally, 20 kilos per person plus one piece of hand luggage no heavier than 7kg and small enough to fit under the seat in front of you or in the overhead locker. Remember not to pack any scissors or sharp objects in your carry on luggage. These items must be packed in your checked luggage. Any liquids, aerosols or gels you wish to take on board the aircraft as hand luggage must be in a plastic bag no larger than 1 litre (about 20 cm x 20 cm or 15cm x 25cm) and must be in containers 100ml or smaller. This includes lipsticks and lighters.

Skis/ boards are generally charged for regardless of your total luggage weight.

Climate and Clothes

August in Queenstown is Winter so it will be cold with an average day time temperature of between 3 & 10 degrees celcius. It can get colder in the ski areas. You will therefore need to keep warm with a good jacket and we’d recommend you invest in some good thermal clothing. Night temperatures in Queenstown can regularly get below zero!! Good waterproof footwear is recommended.

If you are venturing to other places in New Zealand after the Nover Conference, especially to the North Island, the temperature will be slightly warmer with Auckland receiving days of around 15 degrees celcius.

Phoning Home

It is expensive to phone home using the hotel phone in your room. It is usually cheaper to use your mobile (e.g. Vodafone roaming), Calls to Australia from New Zealand are from AU$3.02 per minute, calls to New Zealand numbers, whilst you’re in New Zealand are from AU$1.49 per minute and calls to countries other than New Zealand or Australia are from AU$3.75 per minute. It costs AU$1.17 per minute to receive a call and text messages are AU$.75 to send and receive. These rates are based on the Vodafone World plan – please contact your provider if you are on a different plan.

Currency & tipping

The currency used is the New Zealand Dollar. You can change your money before you go at the bank or at the Airport. You can also change your money at any of the major banks in Queenstown, which are open from 9.00am-5.00pm Monday to Friday. The Millennium Hotel also has money changing facilities although you will probably find the rate at a Bank will be better. Before you leave, check that your Eftpos or Credit card can be used overseas if you need to withdraw cash. Tipping is not generally part of the New Zealand custom although if you receive extraordinary service and think it deserves a tip, this will be gratefully received.

Electricity

You will not require an adaptor for any Australian appliance you decide to take with you.

Time Difference

August in Queenstown is 2 hours ahead of East Coast Australia and 4 hours ahead of West Coast Australia. The whole of New Zealand is on the same time zone.
